Lapis Room invites you to the Opening Reception for Karma Chameleon by Jared Putnam. Check out the exhibit at FUSION as part of the June ABQ Artwalk on June 7 from 4 PM–6:30 PM! This group show showcases new works by Jared Putnam, along with a “mixtape” featuring 12 Lapis Room artists.

Jared Putnam, the show’s featured artist, was born in New York City to John Putnam, Art Director of MAD Magazine, and Jane Putnam, a painter. He moved to Albuquerque in 1990 and has been living and working in the city ever since. Putnam is a professional musician of 25 years, playing for bands such as Le Chat Lunatique and The Chachalacas.

The pandemic halted live performances, causing Putnam to switch creative outlets. As Putnam himself says, “within that time, I began paintings that were inspired and informed by free hand pencil drawings I did on small brown paper bags while cashiering at a grocery store…I explore[d] two and three-point perspective, possible versus impossible objects and spaces, suggestions of optical illusion, positive and negative space, rotational symmetry, and optical illusion…I expand on these linear approaches by shifting into color explorations- how color can suggest shape and form, how flatness and depth can shift depending on value, saturation, direction, and gradient shifts.” Now that live music is back, Putnam continues to play with his bands and explore other worlds through his paintings. Dive into new dimensions of form and color with Jared Putnam's "Karma Chameleon" presented by Lapis Room on view at FUSION | 708 Gallery.
