Be part of Equal Access to Justice’s first-ever JAM FOR JUSTICE at FUSION | 708 on Wednesday, March 26 at 5:30 PM! Kick back and join us for a “battle of the bands” benefit concert, featuring 5 local favorite bands—all with ties to New Mexico’s legal community! Jam out to great music, vote for your favorite band, and help raise critical funds for legal aid at this all-ages show.
Tickets are $25. Proceeds from the event will support New Mexico Legal Aid, the New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty, and DNA People’s Legal Services ensuring that the most vulnerable in our community have access to free legal services and resources.
ABOUT THE BANDS
Controlled Burn
Controlled Burn has been together as a gigging band for over twenty years, playing Rock, Blues and Outlaw Country. This sought out band has played all over New Mexico wherever people like to dance to high energy music. Band members Pete White (guitar and vocals), Brian Fitzgerald (keys and vocals), Ben Baur (drums), and Mark Komer (bass) are all attorneys and accomplished musicians who put on a great show.
Moondogs
With roots as an acoustic trio, Moondogs has evolved into a Pop Rock/R & B band playing a mix of originals and covers transformed into the band’s distinct style. The band is made up of three attorneys from Modrall Sperling Law Firm: Stuart Butzier (acoustic guitar and vocals), Ben Rossi (acoustic guitar) and Susan Miller (lead vocals) and three non-attorney members: George Kachirisky (electric lead guitar and vocals), Melvin Crisp (drums) and Phil Petty (bass).
Alcones Negros
Hailing from the American southwest, Alcones Negros brings experience and innovation to the traditions of Mexican folk music. With their unique approach, the bands’ music has garnered quite a following on Spotify and their performances are not to be missed. Lead band member and attorney, Robert Lucero, specializes in trumpet, vocals, guitar and classical piano. He founded and directed Mariachi Cardenal in Stanford and now directs the Mariachi ensemble course at UNM music department. Joining him are band members: Kiko González (accordion, guitars, vocals), Rafael Herrera (percussion, vocals), Oti Ruíz (harp, vocals) and Daniel Martínez (guitarrón).
A Band Named Sue
Known for their engaging performances, this five-person band plays Bluegrass and Folk music. A recent favorite at Pridezilla and the Downtown Growers Market, A Band Named Sue is led by non-attorneys Adrien Lawyer (guitar and vocals), Persephanie Wilson (vocals), Dair Obenshain (fiddle and vocals), and attorneys Carmela Starace (mandolin and vocals), and Beck Rivera (bass and vocals). If you haven’t caught them at one of their pop-up concerts around town, you are in for a treat.
Woodpeckers
A must-see act, the Woodpeckers are a high energy, classic rock and roll band. The band’s seven, talented musicians are lawyers and judges, who are passionate about their craft: Tommy Jewell, Pete Springer, Bill Parnall, Woody Smooth, William Bluehouse Johnson, John Griffen, and Danny O’Brien. The Woodpeckers have a dedicated following and can regularly be seen playing at Casa Vieja Brewery and Wine Bar in Corrales.
