This performance piece is a work-in-progress followed by a talkback with the audience. Wine, sparkling water, and nibblies will be served to attendees who stay for the talkback portion of this event.
ABOUT WOE
WoE: Walking on Eggshells is a collaboration between two of Albuquerque’s Urban Enhancement Trust Fund (UETF) Resiliency Residency artists: Kristine Maltrud (performance) and Keely Mackey/Celloquacious (electroacoustic looping cellist). Based on Kristine’s layered, improvisational sound and movement scores, Keely created a memorized sound sketch—developed via collaborative discussion, observation, and improvisation.
Kristine conceived of WoE: Walking on Eggshells during two artist residencies in BC, Canada (2018/2019). The piece continually evolves and flows from a prior artistic collaboration—Hocus Pocus—a site-specific performance in Cedar Rose Park, Berkeley, CA, with long-time collaborator, choreographer/dancer Evangel King.
ABOUT KRISTINE MALTRUD
Kristine Maltrud is a life-long dance/theater performer, choreographer, and teacher. Her creative work is sourced from various methodologies, including: improvisational movement/sound “scores” and site-specific work; Authentic Movement; Butoh, contact improvisation; and body-centered awareness practices like yoga, being in wilderness; and Zen. She has performed, studied, and taught extensively in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Passionate about creative collaboration across artistic disciplines, she continues to hatch plans with composers, musicians, scene and lighting designers, visual artists, vocal artists, and poets. Kristine is also the founder/CEO of ArtSpark. She is grateful to be a UETF Resiliency Residency artist through FUSION.
ABOUT KEELY MACKEY
Keely Mackey, artist name, Celloquacious, plays Electroacoustic cello, utilizing looping and effects, while employing extended techniques. She has developed her own style of cello performance over four decades of Classical training, performing over multiple genres, and through composing contemporary music. Keely is the founder and Principal Creative Director of Amused LLC, Arts and Developments, and as an interdisciplinary artist, she works alone, and with others, to create multi-dimensional productions. Keely’s work is inspired by her deep-time in Nature and in contemplative silence. Most importantly to her, Keely holds space for her audience, with aspirations to uplift, educate and heal the greater community. Keely won the 2020 NMMA in the Ambient Contemporary Instrumental category and performed for the awards ceremony, was semifinalist for 2021 ISC, and was accepted to 2021 NYCEMF (both the largest of their kind in the world). Keely is currently a UETF Resiliency Residency recipient through FUSION for 2022-2023.
