Lapis Room presents [ shoots in indian ] a Native/Chicano Short Film Showcase featuring the work of three New Mexican directors—Blackhorse Lowe, Morningstar Angeline, Jesse Littlebird, and Antonio Márquez.
Join us for a night celebrating original stories with a screening of four short films with a speaking panel following right after.
Tickets are $10 suggested donation with proceeds going to FUSION.

About Blackhorse Lowe
Blackhorse Lowe is a filmmaker from the Navajo Nation whose non-traditional films focus on stories through a Native lens. He has written and directed multiple episodes for the Hulu/FX series RESERVATION DOGS and has directed several episodes for Paramount (JOE PICKETT), ABC (BIG SKY), Starz (BLINDSPOTTING) and most recently for Prime Video (OUTER RANGE). His 2019 feature film, FUKRY, won BEST FILM at the Terres en Vues/Land InSights Montreal First Peoples Festival in 2020. He is a 2012 Sundance Institute Time Warner Native Producing Fellow. Lowe’s feature directorial debut 5th WORLD premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival and screened at film festivals around the world. He received the New Mexico New Visions Contract Award and Panavision Award for his short, SHIMÁSÁNI. The film premiered at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival and went on to screen at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. A recipient of a New Media Award, Lowe is alumni of the Sundance Institute’s NativeLab, Producers Lab and Screenwriters Writers Lab.
About MorningStar Angeline
MorningStar Angeline is a queer Navajo, Chippewa Cree, Shoshone, Blackfeet, and Latinx New Mexico-based actress, director, producer, writer, and performer. Her directing filmography includes short films YÁ’ ÁT’ÉÉH ABINÍ, CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS, and SEEDS, in addition to the upcoming feature documentary, WAVEGUIDES. Currently in development is her narrative feature film debut, ROWDY BY NATURE. Morningstar's fellowships include the 2018 Sundance Indigenous Lab, 2020 Feature Writers Lab, and 2020 Vision Maker Media Lab. Her resume includes work in AD, camera, casting, location departments, and talent. In 2014, she made her feature debut as Nizhoni Smiles in DRUNKTOWN'S FINEST at the Sundance Film Festival. Since then, Angeline has starred in feature films such as 2021's KEYHOLE GARDEN, 2019's the INCREDIBLE 25TH YEAR OF MITZI BEARCLAW, and television series including Amazon's OUTER RANGE, Paramount's YELLOWSTONE, Netflix's CHAMBERS, and HBO's THIS MUCH I KNOW IS TRUE.
ABOUT Jesse Littlebird
For Jesse Littlebird, storytelling through the medium of film is a vital part of life as his heritage is deeply rooted in the oral tradition of his Keresan Pueblo culture. Jesse was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and grew up in a creative household of film, art, and story. He attended the University of New Mexico with a major in Film and Digital Media and a minor in Photography. He is a 2017 Full Circle Fellow through Sundance Institute’s Native and Indigenous Program.
About Antonio Márquez
Antonio Márquez is a 12th generation northern New Mexican and Southern Coloradan of the San Luis Valley. He comes from a family background of artists and agriculturalists and continues to practice both. He has written three produced short films and a feature-length screenplay featured in the 2016 Cinestory Writers Retreat. He has done two artistic residences in Mexico City, SOMA Summer and [r.a.t.], and continues practicing a vaquero lifestyle and working on various film and music projects.
